Our Story

MarkAllens American Kitchen is owned by the husband/wife team of Mark Weisbrod and Ann Maxwell-Weisbrod.
Mark is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America with more than 30 years of restaurant experience including General Manager and Chef
on Chicago’s Navy Pier. Ann is well known for her interactive art that features a whimsical, bright, contemporary folk art look. Ann earned a BFA
from Drake University and also spent a year in Italy doing studio work.

In 2006, Mark decided to leave the corporate restaurant world and purchase his own place. After looking in several different states, he found 1402 Peoria Street in Peru. The building has had many past restaurant lives most recently a long run as the ‘Stage Door’. After months spent cleaning, painting and bringing the inside up to date, Mark and Ann opened the doors as MarkAllens American Kitchen on September 1, 2006.
Mark and Ann live on a farm with their English Golden Retriever, Alice. They have two grown sons, Jason and Judd.
